The Cathedral S. Maria Assunta or the Dome of Naples, French Gothic style (13th century) is well-known for the crypt and the chapel of San Gennaro and his miracle.

History

S.Gennaro is one of the most important Patron Saint of Naples. The chapel is famous for the two glass containers of S.Gennaro's blood which liquifies several times a year. Only the Cardinal of Naples is in charge of shaking the ampoule upside down to check for liquefaction. The blood does not always liquefies and according to the legend the miracle consists of blood liquefaction. If the miracle does not take place tragedies are expected to happen in the future for the neapolitans.
